Custom Tattoo Design | Upper Half Sleeve
This design is an upper half sleeve. It wraps to join under the arm.
The design is inspired by the themes cosmic creation & time.
It features infinite spiralling mandalas (based on the Metatron’s Cube shape), which are linked together. Motifs are inspired by the 5 elements & the geometric shapes which symbolise them (platonic solids). Other symbols include, carbon (life force) roots from base chakra (cube)
| Symbolism | The Metatron's Cube is a name for a geometric figure based on 13 equal circles. With lines from the centre of each circle, extending out to the centres of the other 12 circles. It contains every shape that exists within the universe. Those shapes are the building blocks, which make up all physical matter and are known as the Platonic Solids. Apart from its religious & geometric significance, the Metatron’s cube is said to be a powerful symbol of protection, able to keep away demonic and other unwanted influences.
Design Evolution
The design was created over a period of 3 weeks in 2017. Here is a very brief overview of what happens during the evolution of a design. More information on the process will be provided when you request a design quote.
1. Brief
The brief was quite loose. It was discussed & shaped over email. The dimensions were requested and the results plotted. They were then approved for use in the final drawing. Note - They cannot be changed after this point.
2. Concept
A design concept was preposed. This included a rough example of the design & descriptive notes. Note - In order to allocate as much design time as possible on the final art, this stage is very rough. It may not show complex shading or vector artwork. It may just be a very rough hand drawn sketch.
Example (Above)
This is the rough which was presented. It shows the basic flow, proportions, focuses & design join. It included notes on the concept & explanations of the basic drawing & ideas. Note - A little imagination may be needed at this stage.
This is the stage that any changes or requests should be made, as they will be captured at the next stage of the development.
3. Development
The design is developed into a more complex drawing (including shading roughs & more refined line art) It is presented for final approval. Note - There will be minimal or no changes at this stage, as the main points would have been captured already.
4. Approval
The design is approved. No changes are made after this point.
5. Finals
The final artwork is created. A preview of the finished design is sent to the client. The balance payment is made. The artwork is released & downloaded.
6. Ink
The design is taken to a tattoo studio & tattooed.
