    | 2014 | Creating Memories I love creating art by commission, as you can really make each piece special to the client. Leather is the gift for a third year anniversary, this piece is called ‘Entomology’ Here is a little bit about this project… My clients wanted an ‘entomology’ themed design, featuring a bee, moth, may bug, grasshopper, scarab beetle & dragonfly. The design also incorporated a triangle into the theme to represent their 3 years together. (29 x 29 cm)

  • SYMBOLIC INK | METATRON’S CUBE

Sacred geometry is the geometry used in the planning and construction of religious structures such as churches, temples, mosques, religious monuments, altars, tabernacles; as well as for sacred spaces such as temenoi, sacred groves, village greens and holy wells, and the creation of religious art. In sacred geometry, symbolic and sacred meanings are ascribed to certain geometric shapes and certain geometric proportions. The belief that God created the universe according to a geometric plan has ancient origins Many forms observed in nature can be related to geometry, for example, honeybees construct hexagonal cells to hold their honey METATRONS CUBE is a name for a geometric figure composed of 13 equal circles with lines from the center of each circle extending out to the centers of the other 12 circles Metatron’s Cube contains every shape that exists within the universe. Those shapes are the building blocks of all physical matter, which are known as Platonic solids. The shapes represent the patterns that make up everything God has made Metatrons Cube can be formed from the fruit of life symbol, by using the points of the intersection to make the symbol geometrically correct In Christianity, Judaism & Islam, Archangel Metatron is said to be one of the most powerful angels in heaven. It is testimony to this power, that Metatrons was allowed to be seated in heaven, a privilege only reserved for God. It was his job as scribe, to record the history and deeds of mankind and oversee the flow of energy in a mystical cube Early Kabbalistic documents state that Metatron formed this cube from his soul Apart from its geometric & religious significance, the cube is a said to be a powerful symbol of protection, able to keep away demons and other unwanted influences. This is perhaps one of the reasons why people get it inked onto their skin I often use sacred geometry within my work (Tattooed leather art, custom art or ready to wear flash art)

  • Leather Tattoo | Connect With Nature

    | 2013 | Connect with nature | Tattooed Leather Art | Heres a look at how I created my large tattooed & tooled anatomy inspired piece….. Created on pale veg tan leather ,  and left as nude as possible –  which is very difficult when all your tattoo machine wants to do is spray black ink everywhere….. !! I managed to save it from a few disasters! Inspired by plant and animal/ human anatomy & old scientific illustrations You can see a cross section of the brain, mixed with plant anatomy, the silhouette of a body with an intentionally rough outline of the skeleton & stylised  anatomical heart It also features a couple of my favourite flower (Anemone & Nigella) The line work is pretty detailed on this one, and its taken the longest (so far) to ink, it took 3 hours to just get the design onto the leather! Overall its A3 in size so still quite small & detailed The leather was really great to tool. I didn’t want to have sections really raised but i did want to get lots of definition on the main body outline I added in a border featuring more plant and anatomical illustrations,  which i oiled to a darker shade of tan, I may remove it, as i quite like it being pale only … but I haven’t quite decided yet! At the moment, its in one of our reclaimed handmade frames Here it is… Here are some shots of the piece as it develops…. • SYMBOLISM | The Platonic Solids

Thee platonic solids are found in ‘sacred geometry’ Sacred Geometry is a term used to describe patterns, shapes and forms that are part of the make up of all living things. The shapes regularly occur in nature and ancient cultures and peoples often built their monuments or sites of worship, with these shapes. A Platonic solid is a regular, convex polyhedron with congruent faces of regular polygons and the same number of faces meeting at each vertex. Earth, water, fire, air and aether are thought to describe and symbolize the five states of “matter”. Earth = cube Air = octahedron Water = icosahedron Fire = tetrahedron Aether = dodecahedron Each phase encountered is used to initiate the next phase with each being subtler in character than the last. The five elements also connote the five senses. The platonic solids are 3 dimensional polygons with a sequential relationship to one another called duals or congruency. Congruency occurs when one polygon with its unique shape, size and facets can be transformed into the next polygon by changing it’s placement by flipping or rotation. The platonic solids include the tetrahedron, cube, octahedron, dodecahedron & icosahedron. ………………………… Tetrahedron The first of the platonic solids is the tetrahedron having 4 triangular sides. The Tetrahedron represents the element of Fire and is linked to the Solar Plexus; the center for personal power and acceptance. It creates the natural balance between the physical and spiritual. Each side sits flat, no matter how it is turned, making it the perfect symbol for balance and stability. It is also linked to creating change Hexahedron - The second platonic solid is the cube or hexahedron having 6 square sides. The Hexahedron is associated with the element of Earth and corresponds to the Root Chakra. The Hexahedron sits flat, firmly rooted to its spot, connecting with the earth and nature. It has a solid foundation and symbolises stability and grounding energy. Octahedron The third of the platonic solids in the octahedron having 8 triangular sides. It symbolises the element of air. It is linked to the Heart Chakra; the center for love, compassion & our spiritual nature. This chakra is where we access our healing and nurturing aspects. The shape of the Octahedron symbolizes reflection, compassion and healing. Resting on a point, it signifies the careful balance of multiple forces. Dodecahedron The fourth platonic solid is the Dodecahedron, having 12 pentagonal sides. The Dodecahedron is linked to the ethers or universe and works through the higher Chakras from the 6th Third Eye, 7th Crown, 8th Higher Crown and above. Icosahedron The Icosahedron is the fifth and final platonic solid , having 20 triangular sides. The Icosahedron is associated with the element of Water and corresponds to the Sacral Chakra. Water symbolises movement, flow, and change.  It allows for freedom of expression, creativity and ‘going with the flow’
