Final Design
The art was produced for an exhibition.
The design features a mix of organic and geometric symbolism. The theme is ‘Time changes’. It focuses on the MMere Dane symbol. It includes skulls, botanicals (roses) all seeing eye, the cosmos, symbols, sacred geometry.
Symbolism | The MMere Dane symbol means 'Time changes' in the Adinkra language. It is reminiscent of a time measuring hour glass symbol. The circle linking them represents the ever moving, eternal cycle of time, which ensure that nothing ever stands still or remains the same.
Design Evolution
This design was for the Skull Appreciation Society.
The design begins as a rough sketch, which is developed & traced onto the leather. The tattooed lines are then built up in layers from thin to thick , with a tattoo machine & a single needle. Thus it is highly labour intensive.
The line-work is bought out by tooling the leather.
The leather surface is smoothed & burnished.
It is framed in a hand made frame created by us, in Ash. The frame has leather inset into it.
