Tattoo || Alongside my tattooed leather art, I create tattoo art for clients & have a collectors tattoo flash in the store || Over the past 2 years, I have decided to take on less commissions, so there may be a little waitlist (I am afraid that I don't take on all commission enquiries). I only take on one or two projects per month. I work towards a specific aesthetic, combining geometry with nature. The art is created with clean lines & dot shading work (nothing too dark or heavy) I work in my own style & only take on commissions which convey symbolism, geometry, sacred geometry & nature. I am afraid that I don’t tattoo onto clients. You can see lots more examples of my tattoo art in the gallery & blog sections of the website. My flash portfolio contains individual pieces, which can be collected & combined into your own unique design. The style of the art is unique to me. They range from small to large scale pieces. The store is created in collections; symbolism, geometry, nature & the universe. I am a small indi artist , so you won’t seem lots of people with the flash art. ABOUT Drypoint is a printmaking process in which a design is drawn on a plate with a sharp, pointed needle-like instrument. Drypoint is usually done on copper plates as the softer metal lends itself to this technique. (Intaglio refers to any printmaking process which involves making incisions or indents in a plate, so when the ink is applied and then wiped off, ink remains caught in the incisions and creates the image) The lines on drypoint plates are softer. The lines created are slightly raised & can have a ragged or rough appearance at the edges. This is known as the burr. The ink then adheres to both the incised line and the burr. This gives the printed line a distinctive velvety soft look. Owing to the delicate nature of the burr, drypoint is usually made in small editions, stopping before the burr is crushed by the pressure of the intaglio press. Drypoint is often combined with other intaglio techniques, such as etching. DRYPOINT Spotlight Drypoint Robin | 2020 Height 12.5 cm x 10 cm width. Aluminium ​ Featuring a robin sitting within a dodecahedron, amongst foliage. This short video, shows the aluminium plate.​ Works I create drypoints on card, acrylic, aluminium or copper. I prefer to use aluminium. I draw into the surface using a combination of tools. My favourite is a tattoo machine. I also use a Dremel & drypoint tools with ceramic, diamond, agate & hematite stone tips. This is a less precise technique than etching, but I like to challenge myself with adding in as much detail as I can. Lines can be layered up and have a looser feel , but the aesthetic is still the same. I love the softness of a drypoint & how it contrasts with an etching. I like to create tone by leaving a little ink on the plate. The plate itself is a beautiful object, especially in aluminium. Each drypoint is created in a small edition. The balance payment is paid upon completion of artwork. This creates texture across the surface & brings out the line art. PATINA Colour Changes Our leather will go from a lovely pale tan to a richer darker shade, when placed in UV light. The Story Dionne Marshall is an artist, printmaker & the creator of Punctured Artefact. Dividing her time between intaglio printmaking, drawing, textiles , tattoo & digital art. Based in the beautiful Cotswolds. She works from her own small studio, through a combination of self directed projects, commissions & collaborations. The small studio space became the catalyst to developing a precise, signature style of art. Which can be seen across all her methods & materials. There is a fascination with (sacred) geometry, symbolism, symmetry & nature. The Art Dionne enjoys the technical challenge of achieving a high level of detail & complexity in her art. Creating equilibrium & balance within each piece is important. Lines & patterns work in harmony alongside delicate tones & dot work. Compositions blend together geometry & nature. Geometric shapes have a strong organic character. Organic shapes have a strong geometric character. Intricate motifs & patterns may reveal & hide their meaning. ABOUT Etching is a printmaking technique that uses chemical action to produce incised lines in a metal printing plate , which then hold the applied ink and form the image. The plate, traditionally copper but now usually zinc, is prepared with an acid-resistant ground. Lines are drawn through the ground, exposing the metal. The plate is then immersed in acid and the exposed metal is ‘bitten’, producing incised lines. Stronger acid and longer exposure produce more deeply bitten lines. The resist is removed and ink applied to the sunken lines, but wiped from the surface. The plate is then placed against paper and passed through an printing press with great pressure to transfer the ink from the recessed lines. Sometimes ink may be left on the plate surface to provide a background tone. ETCHING Spotlight Etching Dodecahedron Beetle | 2021 Height 12.5 cm x 10 cm width. Etching & Aquatint on Copper Plate. ​ This short video, shows the process of creating an etching plate. ​ This design features a beetle based on the Broscus Cephalotes, sitting inside a Dodecahedron Design Symbolism | The Dodecahedron is the fourth in the series of the five Platonic Solid shapes. It contains 12 faces, 20 vertices and 30 edges, being the closest of the Platonic Solids to mimic the shape of the sphere | Plato described the Dodecahedron as the shape, "... god used for arranging the constellations on the whole heaven” | ​ Limited Edition Print Coming Soon Join Waitlist Works I make my etchings at my home studio. I try to work as 'non toxic' as possible, as my studio space is very small. I prefer to use copper plates, they are lovely to work on, but have experimented with aluminium & zinc. I like to bring some of the aesthetics & imagery from my drawing on paper onto the plate. I enjoy the technical challenge of creating precise & intricate lines, alongside dot work. My focus is about creating detail and often work using a magnifier. I use traditional etching needles & a micro needle for very small lines. Tones are created with silk, spray & traditional aquatint. Textures are created with a roulette & abrasives. Currently, I like to work on small scale pieces. I enjoy building up a collection of similar pieces. It also allows me to learn & develop, without the restriction of spending months on one piece. I like to cut my plates into shapes & plan to develop this further in the future. I generally print in Black & Sepia with the odd highlight colour, like a rich Gold or Rust. I have recently started to experiment with intaglio methods printed onto leather. Each etching is created in a small edition.
