METHOD: Copper Etching With Aquatint. From a hand cut plate.

PAPER: Hahnemühle, Natural White. 8x8 cm
INK: A mixture of Gold & Ochre
FRAME: Wooden Block: 8 x 2.5 x 1 cm with 2mm perspex protective front.
The piece features a little beetle etching, in our signature drawing style (a mix of geometry & organic lines, with fine lines and micro dots) Sitting in a wooden block, with a 2mm clear protective perspex front. 4 deckle edges.

This piece is printed using a hand cut copper etching plate.
Intaglio etching is a labour intensive printmaking technique that involves incising the lines & dots (with a sharp point) onto a copper plate (which is coated in a resist ground). When the plate is immersed in Ferric Chloride it will bite into the exposed drawing. This process is then repeated many times. Tone is created with the Aquatint spray paint method.
The plate is then inked with etching ink. The ink sits in the grooves, whilst the surface ink is wiped off. The ink is then drawn from the incised lines, onto dampened paper, using an etching press.
Each print takes a long time to produce.
These highly detailed, intricate plates ensure each print is unique, making every piece a true one-of-a-kind etching.
I print in small editions, keeping the work precious and limited. Please Note - Each print may vary slightly, as they are individually printed by hand.
I generally have a proportion of the edition already printed.
Please be aware that the pieces may be printed to order. It may take up to two weeks to fulfil your order (accounting for the drying time) In which case, you will be informed.
