|| Decoration is applied to the surface of vegetable tanned leather with a tattoo machine & black ink ||
I studied Fashion, Textiles & Embroidery & have always loved working with leather. I decided I wanted to draw onto leather & then created my own unique process, which enables me to tattoo onto natural full grain (vegetable tanned) leather. I refined the process over many years. I create my art with a tattoo machine (& a single needle) It is quite a nail biting experience, as the tattoo machine is prone to spraying ink everywhere, at any given moment. And, as I keep the leather in its most natural state (with no chemicals) any ink spray won’t come off the leather! This problem, lead me to having to be very careful. I decided to embrace working in this careful & precise way. It became the catalyst to me developing my precise & intricate drawing style. The tattooed lines are further enhanced by the use of traditional & decorative leather working techniques. I prefer to use black ink, as I love the contrast with the natural hide. Commissions welcome. A selection of panels can also be found in the store.
