| BLOOD CANCER |  Awareness Month  | September 2022 Apologies for the long post but it seems an appropriate time to share something.  This post is not art related , but please take the time to read ... I don’t tend to share anything personal, but this is rather close to my heart. . The Stats Blood cancer is a type of cancer that affects your blood cells. Over 40,000 people are diagnosed with a blood cancer each year in the UK, and over 250,000 people are currently living with blood cancer. Stats Source In blood cancer, abnormal blood cells can keep multiplying. They may not be working properly and they may stop healthy blood cells from working. This can stop your blood doing the things it normally does to keep you healthy, like fighting off infections or helping to repair your body | In 2018 I went to the doctors with back pain & bouts of stomach pain. I was finally diagnosed 13 months later with a combination of High-grade Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (DLBCL) & Low Grade Follicular Lymphoma | The Symptoms Some of the symptoms of blood cancer can be vague and difficult to spot. They include; • Unexplained bruising or bleeding • Unexplained weight loss • Lumps or swellings • Drenching night sweats • Persistent, recurrent or severe infections • Unexplained rash or itchy skin • Bone or joint pain • Tiredness that doesn’t improve with rest or sleep | I am not on active treatment. I am currently on ‘Watch & Wait’ monitoring, whereby I take a trip to the haematology dept every few months to check for any signs of the disease coming back. I am 2 years clear | I am grateful that I pushed for diagnostic testing at the doctors . I am grateful that I have treatment options ahead of me. I am grateful for the love, care & kindness of others. An Astrolabe ( "star-taker”) is an elaborate inclinometer , historically used by astronomers, navigators, and astrologer. All my work is packed with symbolism, whether it be hidden or in a more obvious form. Here is one that you will find in my art. | Stag Moon | This evening a super full moon will shine brightly. • A full moon happens when the sun (now in Cancer) & the moon (now in Capricorn) are on opposite sides of the earth. The moon will be at its closest approach to Earth. This one’s expected to be the largest super moon of the year. It will reach its peak on Wednesday at 2:48 p.m. ET The July lunation is often known as the ‘Buck Moon’ because of the antlers that come from the buck/stags head around this time of year. Native American tribes call it Salmon Moon, Raspberry Moon, and Thunder Moon because of the frequent thunderstorms in the summer. In Celtic, this Moon was known as the Claiming Moon, Wyrt Moon, Herb Moon, and Mead Moon, indicating that July is the time to gather herbs (or wyrts) to dry and use as spices and remedies. The Anglo-Saxons called it the Hay Moon after the hay harvest in July.. July's full moon corresponds with the Hindu, Buddhist and Jain festival Guru Purnima, a celebration to clear the mind and honour spiritual and academic gurus. The main feature on the front is a Phoenix. It creates a moon (with phases) & a lotus sun. The inside join features a gnarly tree growing out from a tree of life symbol. The mandala & symbolism at the top represents the cycle of the seasons. The design is a mix of clean lines and minimal shading. It combines nature & patterns found in sacred geometry. The snake is the main motif. The lotus blossom sits on the hand The design wraps around the arm, and the join includes a bee & beetle. The design has minimal shading, so that it won’t appear too solid or heavy. Custom Tattoo Design | 46 cm Height This design is one of 3 wolf designs. This design is for the back. Each wolf has different motifs, but has the same overall face. This is the largest of the 3 designs. This design features motifs which represent, unity, cycles, knowledge. The Cosmic & alchemical motifs are taken from the clients birth chart. | Symbolism | Antimony is a chemical element with the symbol Sb & atomic number 51. It is a lustrous Grey metalloid, found in nature. Antimony compounds have been known since ancient times & were powdered for use as a medicine & cosmetic. Often known by the Arabic name Khol. This elemental alchemy symbol represents animal tendencies found in humankind. In Alchemy antimony is disguised as the Grey Wolf, otherwise known as Lupus Mettalorum. In Alchemy, it is the penultimate stage in the making of the Philosophers Stone (the process of making lead into Gold). It symbolises a closeness to enlightenment (spiritual development) | Symbolism | The wolf has an all seeing eye at the centre of the forehead The symbolism of the eye appears across the world, in many formats. The eye is generally closely associated with the idea of light and of the spirit and is often called ‘the mirror of the soul’. The eye is often symbolic of a spirit or god watching over an individual or humanity. | Symbolism | The tail of the design features an Ouroboros. • The Ouroboros (Greek for tail devourer) is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon eating its own tail. • The symbol is constantly re-creating itself. Custom Tattoo Design | Full Sleeve This design is created as a full sleeve. The top half of the design focuses on the cosmos. The main feature is a unicorn, sitting within a Metatron's Cube. alongside celestial & cosmic planets & symbols (which are connected to the clients birth chart) The bottom half of the design focuses on the earth. The main feature is a branch growing up through two Icosahedrons. The branches start at the wrist and weave around the bottom of the design. The joining part of the design features all 5 platonic solids. This section has also been supplied as a patch, so that the tattoo artist can reposition it as needed, ensuring the whole design fits the arm. The elbow area, has a rose as the feature.
